Matomo (formerly Piwik) is an open-source web and app analytics platform that provides a privacy-first alternative to Google Analytics. Founded in 2007 by Matthieu Aubry, it is developed and commercially supported by InnoCraft Ltd, a New Zealand-based company. Matomo gives organizations 100% data ownership and can be self-hosted on-premise or used as a cloud-hosted service, making it fully GDPR and CCPA compliant. It is used on over 1.4 million websites in more than 190 countries.
